Preparing your presentation
Please develop your slides ensuring you keep to the brief supplied and using the slide template provided. If you would like MGP to produce your slides please let us know.
- The brief will contain details of the anticipated audience and key topics to be covered during the presentation
- Length of presentation: as a rule of thumb prepare one slide for each minute of your presentation
- Use short statements to keep slides uncluttered
- Avoid trying to pack too much information onto individual slides, split it across two slides if necessary
- Use images to emphasise your message.
On receipt of your presentation MGP will review all slides for adherence to the brief and will also check for any typographical errors
Top tips for consistency
- Use the same font and size for titles, headers, body text and bullets throughout
- Only use capitalisation on the first word of headings then use lower case
- Avoid using abbreviations that are not in common use, for uncommon abbreviations add a definition at the bottom of the slide
- References should provide enough detail for someone to find it, i.e. Author, journal, date.
Presenting top tips
Giving your presentation a structure makes it easier for the audience to follow and for you to get your key points across:
- The rule of three:
- Tell them what you are going to tell them: The introduction
- Tell them : The main body
- Tell them what you have told them: The conclusion
- People prefer to listen to confident presenters so never apologise for your talk, its content or your delivery
- Know your audience and relate the presentation to them
- Interact with the audience:
- Introduce yourself
- Avoid reading from your slides
- Ask them questions
- Take questions when you are happy to do so
- Thank them for listening to you
- Finish on time.
